GitHub MCP repositories
MCP servers give AI models access to tools and data. GitHub's search API counts public repositories by topic and creation date. We store only those monthly counts, not repository data.

What the data shows
Computed from every record, as of 2026-10.
- 7,639 repos tagged mcp-server were created in 2026-10, against 584 in 2025-10: +1208%.
- This shows people are still building connections for AI models. It does not show that those servers work or get used.

Limitations
- A repo counts only if its owner added the tag and still has it, so earlier months can change.
- It counts repos, not working servers: tutorials, duplicates and abandoned projects are included.
- Forks and private repos are not counted, and neither are servers kept outside GitHub.
- AI coding agents make repos cheaper to create, so growth may not mean more demand.
