What the data shows
Computed from every record, as of 2026-10.
- 1,549,090 public pull requests in 2026-10 clearly came from coding agents, +177% on a year earlier.
- That is 4.7% of all public pull requests, against 6.8% a year earlier, because all public pull requests grew from 8.2M to 32.9M.
- Agents working under a person's account look human here, and they may explain part of that wider growth, but this data cannot show it.
By agent, 2026-10
| Agent | Pull requests | A year earlier |
|---|---|---|
| Codex | 1381684 | 418960 |
| Copilot | 61241 | 120409 |
| Devin | 53084 | 4102 |
| Cursor | 29333 | 35 |
| Claude | 12280 | 148 |
| Jules | 11468 | 15746 |
Limitations
- It misses agents working under a person's account, and all private repositories.
- Codex is matched by its default branch name, codex/, which anyone can use.
- Accounts and defaults change over time, so one agent's count can move for reasons other than usage.
